Dublin

This is my first blog post on my website. I have been living in Dublin since 07 January and have settled in well by now. My apartment is in a student residence and quite close to the center. The first few days were stressful as I had no equipment in my room. Accordingly, my first days consisted of buying some basic equipment at Ikea, exploring the surroundings a bit, picking up my student public transport card and stocking up my fridge.

Over time, more and more students have moved in, so there is now a lot going on in our dorm. My apartment consists of an electrical engineering student from Lyon, a business student from Chennai and two other business students from New York.

The weather in Dublin has been surprisingly good so far, since I moved in there hasn’t been a single day of heavy rain and actually it’s been sunny every day with temperatures between 5°C and 10°C. For this reason I spend a lot of time outside.Long walks gave me a good overview of my surroundings in the beginning, so now I can go jogging without a map.

Last week Thursday I made a day trip to Howth with a small group. Hwoth is a small peninsula near Dublin. There is a nice little hiking trail that leads once around the island, which takes about 3 hours. Afterwards we had a portion of fish n’ chips.

Then last Saturday I went on another day trip with another group. This time we drove to Bray and hiked from there towards Greystone. There is a path along the coast, as well as a path over a small hill, from which you can enjoy a great view. Accordingly, I would recommend the path over the hill. In the evening I played a few rounds of billiards and cards with friends and watched the 49ers game at the same time!

Since this week you can choose your courses at Trintiy College and from next Monday the university will start! The current status is that everything will take place in presence again. In addition, the government has lifted all Covid restrictions, so I can now look forward to full lecture halls and full pubs!
